Dr. Collin Brathwaite received his Doctor of Medicine from the Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. in 1983. He went on to receive training in general surgery at St. Vincent's Medical Hospital and Medical Center in New York and a fellowship in traumatology and critical care at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems at the University of Maryland.

At Winthrop Surgical Associates in Long Island, LAP-BAND® System and gastric bypass bariatric surgeon, Dr. Alex Barkan provides patients from throughout New York with exceptional patient care. He is board-certified in laparoscopic, endoscopic, and general bariatric surgery.
Dr. Alex Barkan received his Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada where he was on the Dean's List and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. He then went on to complete general surgery and other medical training at some of the most prestigious centers in the country, including MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, and the Albert Einstein School of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. He also served as a clinical instructor at S.U.N.Y.'s Downstate School of Medicine and received advanced fellowship training in laparoscopic bariatric and revisional surgery. Later, he underwent training in laparoscopic, endoscopic, and general bariatric surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Karen Norowski, RN, was a surgical nurse at Winthrop-University Hospital for over eight years before becoming the bariatric care coordinator for the Winthrop Surgical Weight Loss Program. Arlene Stein is a registered dietician from the Winthrop-University Hospital Gastroenterology division. She helps patients overcome their eating problems by counseling them on their new diet plans before and after surgery.
